Uncover New Stories Through Research

We maintain collections to facilitate learning! And as a museum that actively collects artifacts and archives, we are committed to making our collections accessible to the public. Our Genealogy Library and Collections at the Stratford Historical Society serve as valuable resources for those seeking information about their ancestry, homes, and any other Stratford-related topic. If you're conducting research, we're here to assist you!

The library is located on the lower level of the Catharine B. Mitchell Museum directly behind the historic Captain David Judson House. The library is available for in-person research during regular hours or by appointment.

Use Our Collections for Research

There are two options for accessing our collections: In-person and through a Research Request. We ask that you fill out our Research Form for either research option.

In-person Research:

Members may utilize our library and ask to examine collection items during our regular hours at no cost. Non-members may visit the library for a fee of $20 per hour. We appreciate advance notice of your visit so that we can locate items beforehand and you can maximize your time onsite.

Research Request:

If you are unable to visit in person or prefer us to conduct research on your behalf, we are more than happy to assist! Our Research Team offers research services at a rate of $10 per 30 minutes, available to both members and non-members. Remember, members receive one free hour of research per year! Consider joining as a member to take advantage of this benefit.

Please note that while we endeavor to fulfill all requests, we may not always have the information you're seeking. Your research fees support our ongoing efforts to preserve our collections for research and exhibition purposes, including conservation initiatives, collections handling training for our staff and volunteers, and other collections management endeavors.
